He's won 4 of out 5 BOB in 5 shows with competition, including Shawn's bitch,in the short time I've had and been showing him. And each time
he's won every judge has been extremely complimentary on the correctness of his type, his structure, movement and condition, and not a word has been said
about his ear. I guess his overall correct structure out weighs his ear fault, in the opinion of of many judges.Judges which I'm sure will love to hear
that Shawn thinks they don't know what they are doing out there in the ring.
Vicky, The post was about judges not readying the standard not about bashing your dog, and by the way I am sure that my bitch is more correct to the standard then your male. Poor judging of the breed gave you a win, not the structure of your dog. So before you ever begain to say I am posting on this board or any for that matter about your dog, you are not that important to me; nor your dog. |

I'm sure you'll also deny making at least one phone call, that I know of ranting about your loss in Reno to my dog too,as I know that has to be the show you are speaking of as that was the only show in which we competed in ,where both our dogs were present. Not to mention you are making derogatory comments about your fellow judges,. Such standards you set not only as a judge but as a competitor. No wonder we see such poor sportsmanship any more at shows with examples such as you to follow. |

First of all, I find this really ironic and sad, because the UKC's magazine, Bloodlines has been publishing several continuing articles about
sportsmanship. This is exactly the type of behavior that they are referring to and it is detrimental to not only the breed or breeds, but more importantly the
sport.
As and exhibitor sportsmanship is or should be present, as a judge, it goes without saying that your sportsmanship should be above reproach. I find this whole 4 page slam on a dog in poor taste. Since reading these articles, as I suggest everyone do, I have thought more seriously about the negative connotations that poor sportsman can cause. I have been at the receiving end of these types of smear campaigns myself as I am sure everyone knows/remembers. It is really unacceptable behavior for an adult to partake in. The dog is winning, you don't like, but you won't come out to compete against it, and all you do is sit there and complain. Come on Shawn, you have been in the game far too long for this behavior, but then again it hasn't stopped you in anything other types of harassment, has it??? We have ALL, and I mean ALL been beat by dogs that we felt we should NOT have lost to. It is really all about how you deal with that, that defines your sportsmanship potential. You should sincerely congratulate the winner and let it go, not make phone calls leaving messages for someone with whom you are not even on speaking terms with, post on message boards, attempt to reprimand judges in 'their' ring, and definitely not ambush other exhibitors.
Competition...it brings out the best in some, the worst in others, and
the FAKE in MOST !!!

Gee it sure is interesting that your post Shawn ,where you directed everyone to the photo gallery ,where the pictures of my Staffy were posted has
disappeared.

This board is so much nicer for this exact reason... you can delete you own posts, we can find them and restore them if you wish, things can be moved to the
right area rather than only deleted, etc... Love Yuku!

If you do not like what the judge puts up on any day talk to them about it. if you feel they did wrong by the breed bring the standard with you when you talk
to them.
I do have judges I do not show under cuz I do not like their interpretation (spelling) of the standard. I bet many judges have never had the pleasure of judging the SBT so try to educate them if you wish. Hope to see some of your in Reno for the Pull. American Staffordshire Terrier and

Hey I can only speak for me....but Apryl you sure did try to help.
(Wow what a mod! Three cheers! WOOOOOOOO!)
I have always wanted a staffy bull, myself. The biggest thing that makes me step back is the sheer amount of amstaff/pit bull people in the breed. This is NOT the AST/APBT by any stretch. I often wonder how the die-hard staffy people themselves view the AST/APBT owners getting involved in their beloved dogs. Think about it, we have the die-hard APBT folks who care about structure, why wouldn't they also have them? How many of them are thrilled about the SBT looking more like the AST/APBT every year? Not many I imagine. Their legs are not supposed to be dead on straight in the front, for example. They should toe out. Their top lines are different, their head shapes are different....blah blah blah..... The UKC SBT drawing is a shame. Even though judges should know the dogs, the UKC should take steps to ensure the drawing actually does represent the SBT as best that it can, for the brand new owner as much as for breed posterity. The AKC "amstaff" drawing sucks donkey ears as well! GROSS!!

Jenn Sherman wrote: Jenn, I so agree. While the two breeds are similar in a general way , there are some major differences. Much like getting Bru , I stumbled onto this breed by chance. Knowing both Karen Dawes and Janice Snyder is a fast way to be introduced to Staffies, because both of them are always needing an extra handler lol. I remember the first time I showed one and thinking to myself , man this dog toes out terrible in the front and I kept trying to straighten the front feet. Janice asked me what are you doing? I told her I was trying to fix the feet so they didn't toe out. She laughed and said , but they were supposed to. Did I feel dumb. After I quit messing with the feet, I won the class and I even took the breed that day . For the most part out here at least showing Staffies is so much more fun, than pits. It is generally the same people showing , we all know each other and are out there in the ring having fun. |

By the way thank you for offering to return the Picture post Apryl. But I removed it as certain people had turned a post that was celibrating an awesome
job of pulling and earning a title by Lester into a bash.

as an APBT person and an SBT person. I have had no issues with the SBT world thinking bad of me for having APBT but then I have a great mentor. I know the
difference between the 2 breeds. LOL. it took me 4 yrs from the time I desided to get a SBT till I got 1. 1 reason was to do research the other was the breeder
I chose has very few litters.
I have spoken to SBT owners from all over the US and a few from the UK and have found a great group of friends that all strive to keep the SBT breed true to the standered. However their are those breeding them bigger and keeping them fatter. Many of them being top winning dogs. And owned and bred by SBT people who have not to my knowledge been in the APBT or AST breed. I personally hate that some of the APBT and AST people are getting into the breed as I saw what they bred as pit bull owners. Not staying true to the standered, breeding to breed, just breeding their females to what they have in the yard and not putting much thought into it. But then again I have seen a few SBT only breederds doing the same. hope this makes sence. American Staffordshire Terrier and

Beth, that makes sense. If they did poorly by AST or APBT, they'll do poorly by SBT.
I can't wait to get my first SBT. Shouldn't be tooooo long now. I hope. :) --

Made perfect sense to me, Beth. Key words especially...." I know the difference between the 2 breeds."
There are few folks that need to be breeding the SBT, let alone the AST/APBT. Owning them is another ball game, as the SBT is balls to the wall 24/7. Sheesh, my damnstaffs & pits can relax at least once in awhile.
Someday I'm going to have my own SBT I hope. I happen to be madly in love with Belnor's Dreamkeeper, aka Beau, and he happens to be the one dog on the planet the Danginator wants dead on site.....other dogs she's just pushy and dominant, but Beau? Those two have to be wrangled/strong-armed if they are in proximity. Ever tried to hold an SBT back from doing what it wants you might appreciate the raw power those little bodies pack LOL. These guys are NOT 'our breed' and I'd sooner push the AST/APBT to a novice than an SBT. Me, I love 'em....want at least one someday!
